Today is Earth Day and what better way to celebrate it than by planting a tree? If that’s not your thing, we’ve a compiled a short list of ways you can help the environment.
Here are 10 easy ways to help.
1) Recycle
Seems painfully obvious, but this is often overlooked. Recycle anything and everything you can think of. Paper, bags, boxes, cartons, plastic containers, etc. Some places even pay you to recycle. Try giving metal and glass recycling a try. Also, check out this crazy fact–The energy saved from recycling a single aluminum can will operate a television for three hours!
2) Cancel That Subscription
If you’re still receiving unwanted catalogs and/or magazines, save everyone involved time, money and hassle by cancelling today. (Not to mention all the trees you’d be saving)
3) Switch to E-Bills
Along the same lines as the suggestion above, why not pay your bills online? It’s faster and you avoid all the clutter that accompanies traditional billing statements.
4) Monitor Tire Pressure
Properly inflated tires could save 2.8 billion gallons of gasoline a year. Buy a tire pressure gauge and keep some change handy and you’ll not only reduce your transportation costs, but you’ll be helping the environment, too. It’s a win-win.
5) Ix-nay on the Bottled Watered-ay
Bottled water is terrible for the environment and has even been linked to cancer. Bottles used to package water take over 1,000 years to bio-degrade and if incinerated, they produce toxic fumes. Use tap water instead.
6) Unplug Unused Electronics
Unplug appliances when not in use. Most electronics, even when powered off, but still plugged, siphon off power.
7) Replace Your Light-bulb
Replace your light bulb with an energy-efficient one. Electric bill savings, pollution reduction, and longer lighting times. This is a no-brainer.
8) Invest in a Clothesline
Sure, there is a little more patience involved with this one, but you’ll cut costs and maintain better fitting clothing.
9) Buy Local
Reduce greenhouse emissions from when products are transported and support your local economy.
10) Donate
Have items you don’t want anymore? Why not donate them? Help someone out while you help the environment out. 2 birds, one stone.
These are just a few ways you can help out. There are so many more, that’s it’s hard to even scratch the surface.
